Modular boardroom tables: how they work and when they are worth it

Quick answer: a modular boardroom table is a set of modules (straight sections, ends and corners) joined with concealed hardware. It is worth it when the same room hosts meetings of very different sizes, or when the table has to be moved, stored or taken up a narrow lift.

How it works

Each module is a complete table with its own legs or pedestal. The straight sections are aligned with locating dowels and fixed underneath with connectors, so the surface stays flush. The same modules make straight tables, U-shapes, hollow rectangles or several separate tables.

Advantages

  • One room, many uses: a committee of 10 in the morning and a board of 40 in the afternoon.
  • Transport and installation: modules of about 2 m that fit through doors and lifts.
  • Growth: modules are added as the company grows.
  • Technology per module: each section has its own technical plate and connects to the next with quick connectors.

When it is not worth it

In a boardroom that is always used the same way, where you want a single piece with no joints, a stone top or a veneer top with continuous grain, a fixed table is usually better. The two can be combined: a fixed statement table plus auxiliary modules to extend it for special occasions.

How the joints are hidden

With sequence-matched wood veneer the grain continues from one module to the next and the joint is barely visible. Another option is to turn it into a design feature with a brass or bronze inlay, which can also house the power.

You can see every layout on the modular boardroom table page or build it yourself in the 3D configurator.

Frequently asked questions

How many people does it take to change the layout?

Usually two. The modules are designed with lightweight panels and, if needed, concealed castors or a transport trolley.

Can you see the joint between modules?

With locating dowels the surface stays flush. With sequence-matched veneer the grain continues; if preferred, the joint is highlighted with a metal inlay.

Can a modular table be powered?

Yes. Each module has cable management and quick connectors at the joints, so the whole table runs from one or two floor boxes.
