EN standards for office and meeting tables

Quick answer: office work tables are covered by EN 527 (dimensions and safety), and non-domestic tables such as meeting tables by EN 15372 (strength, durability and stability), whose tests are described in EN 1730. In tenders and corporate projects it is common to require compliance with these standards.

EN 527: office work tables

It has several parts. The first sets the dimensions: working heights, legroom and table types, fixed or height-adjustable, including sit-stand desks. The second sets the safety, strength and durability requirements: the table must bear loads, not tip over, and moving parts must not create trapping points.

EN 15372: non-domestic tables

It applies to professional tables that are not office workstations: meeting rooms, dining rooms, hotels or restaurants. It defines levels of requirement according to use, higher for heavy use, and the requirements for strength, durability and stability.

EN 1730: the tests

It describes how tables are tested: vertical and horizontal loads, fatigue, impacts and stability. It is the standard the laboratory uses to check that a table meets EN 527 or EN 15372.

And the power

Connection boxes, power strips and electric columns are electrical equipment and must carry the CE mark. When they are built into a table, their manufacturer’s instructions must be followed and cable routes planned with no strain or sharp edges.

What to ask the manufacturer for

  • Which standards the table meets and at what level of use.
  • Test reports from an accredited laboratory, if the project requires them.
  • Technical data sheets for materials, finishes and electrical components.

For bespoke tables, the tests are carried out on the representative model. See our office desks or ask us about a specific project.

Frequently asked questions
